I also think it is great that there are lots of different implementations of FATE. Not all have skill pyramids. Not all have very short skill lists. I am thankful for the new implementation in FATE Core because it has opened up so many design ideas for discussion. But I still really admire the design of other FATE games, especially Diaspora and Starblazer Adventures/Legends of Anglerre.
